The
Centre for Independent Journalism (CIJ) joins the 16 days of activism
to end gender violence. This campaign was launched globally in 1991 and
in recent years and with advances in technology, violence against women
has also taken on a new dimension through the online platforms like
emails, blogs, phones etc.
Through its work on promoting the use of
simple technologies to record voices and write their stories, among
women and young girls, CIJ supports the campaign in Malaysia and
globally.
The campaign starts 25 November and ends on International Human Rights Day on 10 December.
This
year, we will take advantage of the popular social networking sites
like Facebook and Twitter as well as the Short Messaging Service (SMS)
to invite individuals to do their bit to mobilise support for the
campaign to end gender violence.
Our
new activity is to create a blog in the Tamil language that contains
information about women's rights and document stories by women who have
experienced some of violence. The blog is called Magalir Mattum.
