Kuala Lumpur: The two journalists who lodged reports of bribery in an
attempted bribery case during the Kuala Terengganu by-election said
they had identified the person who handed them the money and refuted a
statement by an anti-corruption spokesman who said they would not
pursue the case as the giver was not named. In an email interview, MerdekaReview.com journalists Chan Wei See and Chen Shaua Fui said they had named the person who had given the envelopes containing RM300 on the eve of the Kuala Terengganu by-election at the media operations centre. "We named the giver in the police report and in our report to the state anti-corruption agency. So it is incorrect to say that we could not identify the giver, as an MACC officer was quoted as saying to the New Straits Times as reported on Tuesday. "After making police reports on the evening of 16 Jan (Friday), we were told by an Inspector over the phone that after a meeting between the police and the BPR (now MACC), the case would be transferred to the latter. That night, we were taken by an Inspector to the Terengganu MACC based in Wisma Persekutuan, Kuala Terengganu to record our statement. "They promised that they would investigate the case and told us that they would call the giver to record a statement," they added.
