Civil society groups express solidarity with blogger Raja Petra PDF Print E-mail

Six civil society group, including the National Alliance of Bloggers and Centre for Independent Journalism have stated solidarity with blogger Raja Petra Kamaruddin, who is now detained in the Sungai Buloh prison for charges under the Sedition Act. This is the fourth time the blogger was taken action against using this law. The group unanimously opposed to the use of Sedition Act to jail the blogger and have called for the abolishment of the law.

Media freedom and information laws are among the questions and motions tabled for the first day of the 12th parliament, observes V. Gayathry, with a tinge of hope that this new session would raise the profile of media freedom higher on the agenda of parliamentarians and the public.
