The Centre for Independent Journalism (CIJ) is concerned over the rising numbers of incidents where media personnel have been harmed and attacked at functions where members of and supporters representing political parties have been responsible for the attacks. In the latest case, we are disappointed that a blame game has resulted between the political parties involved and little concern is shown towards the safety of journalists and photographers in doing their work.

Writer Alliance for Media Independence (WAMI) and the Centre for Independent Journalism (CIJ) urge Malaysians to stop banning of books like the Sister-in-Islam (SIS) publication "Muslim Women and Challenge of Islamic Extremism" by pushing for media law reform. Another book "Pelik Tapi Benar Dalam Solat" by Abdul Rahman Mohamed is also banned.

The Centre for Independent Journalism (CIJ) and Writers' Alliance for Media Independence (WAMI) are deeply concerned about the defamation suit filed against blogger Raja Petra Kamaruddin by lawyer Shafee Abdullah, who also demanded through a court order for Raja Petra to reveal the sources of his articles said to be defamatory.
