Once again, the media council proposal is raised as a way of "monitoring" the media. CIJ views this with concern, but invites the government and the MPI to have a broad based discussion on the issue with some assurances that the laws that govern the media will be reviewed.

Fifty-nine civil society groups today expressed surprise that the Selangor Mentri Besar appeared to be backtracking on his commitment to introduce a freedom of information law in the state. They call on the state government to set up a task force to review existing practices and the draft law for the state level.
