Six civil society group, including the National Alliance of Bloggers and Centre for Independent Journalism have stated solidarity with blogger Raja Petra Kamaruddin, who is now detained in the Sungai Buloh prison for charges under the Sedition Act. This is the fourth time the blogger was taken action against using this law. The group unanimously opposed to the use of Sedition Act to jail the blogger and have called for the abolishment of the law. |

The Centre for Independent Journalism (CIJ) and Writers Alliance for Media Independence (WAMI) are concerned that the Sedition Act continues to be used to harass bloggers, contradicting the positive attitude that the government exhibited towards bloggers post election. The targetting of certain bloggers, in particular, Raja Petra Kamaruddin, under the broadly worded Sedition Act raises concern that the law is being used to silence critics. |
